Alice Martini is a Lecturer of International Relations at the International Relations and Global History Department, Faculty of Political Science and Sociology, Complutense University of Madrid, Spain and a researcher at the ICEI, Spain. She holds a Bachelor’s in Anglogermanic Philology (Universitat de Barcelona), a Master’s in International Relations and African Studies ( Autonomous University of Madrid) and a PhD in International Relations (awarded jointly by the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Italy & the UAM, Spain). She held a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship at UNED, Spain, before her current position, and she has been an honorary lecturer at Queen Mary, University of London. She has been a visiting scholar in various research centres, among which, Southern Cross University (New south Wales, Australia), the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (University of Dunedin, New Zealand), IPRI-NOVA (Portugal), University of Trento (Italy), Université internationale de Rabat (Morocco), and the University of Coimbra (Portugal). In her research, she examines mostly security practices and counter-terrorism from critical approaches, focusing mostly on the reproduction of power structures in the international society. She is the author of The UN and counter-terrorism. Global hegemonies, power, and identities (Routledge, 2021), co-author of Critical Terrorism Studies. A Dictionary (with L. Jarvis, E-IR), and co-editor of various volumes in the sub-fields of Critical Terrorism and Critical Security Studies. Her research has been published in a variety of journals in Spanish, English and Italian and her work, among others, has been funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (Spain) and by the European Union.

Raquel da Silva is Associate Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra, Portugal and Integrated Researcher at CEI-Iscte in Lisbon, Portugal. She has an MA in Justice Psychology from the University of Minho, Portugal and a PhD in Social Applied Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK. She held a British Academy postdoctoral fellowship at the International Development Department at the University of Birmingham, UK and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship at CEI-Iscte, Portugal. Her research examines different forms of non-state violence, from terroristic violence to football violence, as well as different forms of state violence, particularly related to counterterrorism. She has published a monograph entitled Narratives of Political Violence: Life Stories of Former Militants (Routledge, 2019) and has co-edited four other volumes in the sub-field of Critical Terrorism Studies. Her interdisciplinary research has also been published in a variety of journals, and her work has been funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology, the British Academy and the European Union, among others.
